Construction activities in Northcote have been suspended from midnight Wednesday 25 March for at least four weeks. This includes any building site preparation, house construction and infrastructure works. In advance of this suspension, we have worked closely with our partners to make sure sites are tidy, secure and weather tight.

Following are some answers to some questions that might pop up in the Northcote community during the lockdown. We’ll update this list as the situation changes, but please always refer to the government’s official COVID-19 website for advice in the first instance.

Can I take the kids to the local parks?

So long as you and your kids are well and not in self-isolation, you can still take them for a walk or bike through the local parks to stretch their legs. You must maintain a two metre distance from others outside your ‘bubble’. Keep an eye on kids to discourage them from touching surfaces such as handrails. And remember, stay clear of playgrounds as these are off-limits during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

What about my dog?

As long as you are not in self-isolation you can still take your pooch to the park for a walk. But remember, you must maintain a two metre distance from other dog walkers at all times. Auckland Council has recommended that you keep your dog on a lead even in off-leash areas, to avoid potentially coming into close contact with someone else when retrieving your dog.

Are the public bins being emptied or do I need to take rubbish home with me?

Yes, however where possible please take your rubbish home with you where possible.

Are the public toilets open?

Some public toilets, including the Little Shoal Bay toilets, will remain open to support rough sleepers and essential workers. All other public toilets in the Northcote locality are closed - so you’ll need to plan any walks accordingly.

Are our kerbside rubbish and recycling collections continuing as usual?

Yes, Auckland’s kerbside rubbish and recycling collections are deemed an essential service and will continue as usual.

I've bought a home off the plans at Fraser Avenue and I have some questions. Who should I speak to?

The current Alert Level 4 restrictions means the Fraser Avenue display suite has closed and construction work has stopped while the lockdown is in place. We’re working with NZ Living to ensure that construction can safely continue when restrictions are lifted.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about your home please contact Duncan Macdonald on +64 21 903 237 or Duncan.Macdonald@colliers.com.

I am a Kāinga Ora tenant living in Northcote and I have some questions about my tenancy. Who can I speak to?

Although Kāinga Ora’s Tenancy offices are closed, their teams are still available to help.

You can call the Customer Service Freephone on 0800 801 601 or visit the Contact Us section of Kāinga Ora’s website for more information on how to get in touch.

The wellbeing of our people and the Northcote community is our priority, and we thank you for your patience during this pause. We hope you and your whānau stay safe and look after one another during this challenging time.

Aroha nui,

The Northcote Development team
